Cotton’ Pickin’ is an homage to Kara Walker's approach to storytelling. Textured hair can mimic the soft, fluffy texture of cotton while holding a defined shape. This inspired me to connect African-American history to cotton production under slavery. Those roots run deep. As I envisioned the comb, I drew parallels to the sources of this aesthetic. Then it hit me - Kara Walker's work. The 3D-printed comb and handmade cotton pod wig aim to convey the painful history and honor it through irony and a unique perspective.
